Petition Action

A change to carers allowance. And how its paid.

Petition Details

Carers allowance is usually paid to close friends or family that look after a disabled person for 35 hours or more each week paying in total £62.10 well below the hourly minimum wage. Many give up good jobs to support their loved ones, to look after them on a day to day care need.

Additional Information

Carers allowance £62.10 per week for a minimum of 35 hours work.
That is £1.77 per hour.
National minimum wage states that a person should be paid £7.20 per hour. If over 25 years old, there are other rates in attached link
https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates
Holiday pay is 5.6 weeks per year. Set out by the Government.

Why is it the government prey on the most needy and can get away with not paying the minimum wage?
