Petition Action

A Human Right. Clear spent convictions after 20 years

Additional Information

In consideration of the reabilitation of Offenders Act, there is a need for ex offenders to have their spent conviction erased from Standard & Enhanced Criminal checks. The Human Rights Act allows for provision of a safe family life, with all people being given the same opportunities. This is not the case with ex offenders. If these ex offender have not re-offended for 20 years, then it is wrong to keep ciminalising them. In many cases these people have turned their life around, but are unable to feel fully confident in their ability to enhance their career for fear of employers and colleagues finding out about their past.
