Petition Action

Allow all MPs a free vote on the renewal of the Trident nuclear weapons system

Petition Details

In 1968, the UK signed the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty pledging their cooperation in stemming the spread of nuclear technology. In 1996 the International Court of Justice ruled that the threat or use of nuclear weapons would be contrary to the rules of International Law.

Additional Information

We, the undersigned, call on UK Party Leaders to allow MPs in their political parties, a free vote in the impending Westminster debate on the renewal of the Trident nuclear weapons system. On a matter of such moral, legal, economic and military significance MPs should be able to vote according to their individual consciences.
