Petition Action

Ban public transport peak fares, especially on suburban commuter routes.

Petition Details

The UK is one of the few countries in the world where commuter public transport users suffer a peak fare system, with transport often owned by foreign interests. Commuters are essentially being penalised and profited from unnecessarily as they go to work, often making car usage more attractive.

Additional Information

Budapest - 80p per individual suburban bus or underground journey any time of day
Kuala Lumpar - 23p per stop on underground Metro (modern air-conditioned Siemens trains) any time of day
Barcelona - £1.80 individual bus or underground journey any time of day
Lisbon - individual journey bus on-board fare - £1.50 any time of day
Melbourne - all-zone 2-hour tram or bus ticket, £2 any time of day
Bangkok - daily any time Skytrain pass £2.60 (Bangkok is a very big city of 12 million people!)
