Petition Action

BBC pensions deficit to be paid by licence fee payers

Additional Information

The BBC is intending to use £740m from the licence fee to fund a current £2bn shortfall in the BBC pension fund
These figures were not published by the BBC.
Why should the taxpayer continue to be responsible for such a generous pension scheme when every one else has had to take steps to deal with austerity cuts ?
If as it is stated the BBC is not asking staff to help reduce the cost to the taxpayer then the Government should call to account how this been arrived at who authorised it and if necessary insist that staff should contribute if they expect such benefits
The salary levels in the BBC are well documented and pension benefits within the BBC have already been heavily criticised even before this recent announcement !!!
