Child railway ticket prices for people under 21 and in full time education

Petition Details

Anyone who is under 21 and in full time education (college or university) shouldn't have to pay a adult ticket fare to travel on railways.

Additional Information

As a child age 16 I am not yet able to drive and it is so expensive to travel anywhere on the train which is one of my only methods of transport.

It would also be more eco friendly if youths used the railway as a main source of transport so as long as we are under 21 and in full time education we should pay a child's price.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not responsible for.

Aged-based transport fares are not set by the UK Government. For trains, the fares are set by train operating companies.

You could start a new petition asking Parliament to change the law, to require all transport operators to offer child fares for anyone under 21 in full-time education.
