Citizens with mental health problems should be entitled to a service dog.

Petition Details

The blind are entitled 2 a service dog, so why do people with mental illnesses with impaired functioning who can't leave the house not? One could change the lives of many with depression, anxiety & agoraphobia enabling them 2 leave the house accompanied putting them @ ease in social situations.

Additional Information

New NHS figures show that the number of deaths annually among mental health patients in England has risen 21% over the last three years from 1,412 to 1,713.

The number of those killing themselves or trying to do so has also increased, by 26% from 595 in 2012-13 to 751 in 2014-15.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Assistance dogs for the blind are provided by charities, not the Government. We're therefore not clear what your petition is asking for.

If you would like the Government to provide funding for service dogs for people with mental health problems, you could start a petition asking for that.
