Petition Action

Companies should pay compensation for wrong debt chasing.

Additional Information

A Company that incorrectly bills a person and then pursues them by letter, or debt collectors, should by law compensate that person.
A Tariff should be set to make it incumbent on companies to make sure they have their facts right before pursuing anybody.
For example:
After the recipient has responded to the original query factually denying the costs.
Compensation:
£100 for each threatening letter, or telephone call.
£300 for an incorrect entry to a credit referencing agency.
£300 if a debt collector is instructed.
£1000 if a person is wrongly denied credit because of a wrongful accusation.

It should also be mandatory an official register is kept so persistent offenders are prosecuted by the government.
