Cut MPs salary by 20% of current pay (March 2016) with no rise for 2 years

Petition Details

The MPs of this country are given a pay rise every year, while the rest of the U.K. Is informed how poor we are, how much the national debt is and how much we should be able to live off. I propose making them take a sensible pay cut, with no pay rise for 2 years to help the economy.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government and Parliament don’t have the power to set MPs’ pay. That power was given by Parliament to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) in 2010, so that after 2012 MPs no longer had control over their own pay.
