Petition Action

Equality of funding for UK students studying Allied Health Professional Courses in Scotland.

Additional Information

The Student Loans Company (SLC) refuse to provide full funding for English, Welsh and Northern Irish students studying Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Courses in Scotland and suggest these students should "live on Pot Noodles"

All UK students, including those from Scotland studying AHP Courses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland currently receive a grant from the NHS plus a reduced maintenance loan from the SLC.

Scottish students studying AHP courses in Scotland do not recieve a grant from the NHS or SHD, but do receive a full maintenance loan from SLC.

Students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland studying in Scotland do not recieve a grant and receive only an inadequate "reduced rate" maintenance loan from the SLC.

The SLC must be asked to review its regulations in order to ensure equality of funding for ALL UK students.
