Fair Rent

Additional Information

There are increasing signs of abuse in terms of rental increases in the wider economy from private student accommodation to the general population with unreasonable increases and eviction notices becoming more frequent.

This petition argues that all private rental agreements should become regulated tenancies under the Rent Act 1977 and the assured / assured short hold tenancies abolished.

The Rent Act 1977 provides rules for setting Fair Rents and the Rent Acts (Maximum Fair Rent) Order 1999 limits the amount of rent that can be charged by linking increases to the Retail Prices Index.

This Rent Acts (Maximum Fair Rent) Order 1999 itself should be modified to be the lower of the RPI or CPI.
