Fines from speed cameras should be used to maintain roads

Petition Details

A common issue on the roads in the U.K. Are the damage of roads such as potholes, cracks, uneven surfaces and loose stones. My vehicle and others get damaged due to the lack of road maintenance. Lack of road maintenance can be dangerous to road users and pedestrians.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for all roads in the UK. The UK Government, through Highways England, is responsible for major roads in England.

Local roads are the responsibility of local councils. Major roads in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are the responsibility of devolved governments.
