Petition Action

Free gym membership for members of the Reserve Forces

Additional Information

Members of the Regular Armed Forces have access to a gymnasium on barracks, free of charge, however members of the Reserve Armed Forces do not usually enjoy this privilege due to the nature of being a reserve soldier.

There are exceptions; some councils such as Hyndburn Borough Council are leading the way in supporting members of the Reserve Forces with a free gym membership. Other councils have a discount in place or no benefits at all.

The points are should members of the Reserve Forces have the same access to fitness facilities as their Regular counterparts? and with physical fitness of the Reserve Forces generally lower than that of a Regular Regiment/Battalion should the government have all local authorities adopt a policy like Hyndburn Borough Council?
