Petition Details

The Attention Card confirms 'The person you have with you will have a medical diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition'. They should be treated as a vulnerable person and PACE 1984 guidelines should be followed. The card in Cheshire is Unique to the autistic person.

Additional Information

Autism affects more than 1% of the population. You’re therefore highly likely to encounter someone who is on the autism spectrum at some point in your policing career. This might include autistic people who aren’t yet diagnosed.

This guide provides background information about autism and aims to help all police officers and staff who may come into contact with autistic children or adults meet their responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 (Disability Discrimination Act 1995, Northern Ireland). It’s designed to be used as a regular reference.
