Petition Action

Give people aged 16 and 17 a vote in local & national elections and referenda.

Petition Details

1.5 million people in the UK are denied a political voice. This encourages political disaffection. At sixteen they can join the armed forces, get a job, pay tax, obtain tax credits, marry, enter a civil partnership or become a parent. They understand issues but can't shape laws that govern them.

Additional Information

During the 2014 Scottish independence referendum sixteen and seventeen year olds were given the vote and proved to be as enlightened and responsible as everyone else.
