Petition Action

Government are breaking the law by defying the United nations on the bedroom tax.

Additional Information

David Cameron’s Bedroom Tax breaches human rights and should be scrapped, a top UN official will insist today.
UN special rapporteur Raquel Rolnik will say the PM’s policy breaches the basic right to housing as there are not enough smaller properties for tenants to move to.
Ms Rolnik, a Brazilian housing and architecture academic, has visited London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast and Manchester meeting campaigners, Bedroom Tax victims and officials.
She will present a final report on the tour, which was endorsed by the Government, to the UN’s Human Rights Council in March.
A spokesman for the National Anti-Bedroom Tax Federation said: “We have said all along it was a breach of human rights and now the UN has confirmed this.
“We are now calling on the Labour Party to echo or endorse Ms Rolnik’s call for the tax to be scrapped.”
