Petition Action

If redundant and in debt then any arrears should be added onto the term of the debt

Additional Information

I would like to see the government take action with banks, loans and credit card companies for those who are in debt and have been made redundant or who are struggling to find work.

Rather than banks and credit card companies etc harrassing people with constant telephone calls and default notices, a much fairer system would be to add any arrears onto the term of the debt. The customer should still try and make affordable monthly payments even if it's only between £5 per month.

Stopping all automated calls and letters would give people a breathing space to find work at a very vulnerable time mentally and emotionally.

When a job is found (a time limit of e.g. 6-12 months could be imposed for a customer to secure work) their financial position could then be reviewed and a suitable payment plan put in place for the customer to pay the arrears back.
