Improve the health of Britain’s school pupils

Calling on HM Government to implement new productive legislative reform pertinent to nutrition and exercise in the National Curriculum.

Currently, physical education in KS3 and KS4 is limited to one hour per week, whereas HM Government guidelines recommend a minimum of 30 minutes exercise per day.

There should be a minimum of three hourly sessions per week in Physical Education to guarantee children and adolescents are meeting these minimum requirements.

A study published in March 2013 by HM Department of Health states that approximately 30% of 2-15 year olds in England are either overweight or obese.

The policy issue authored by Anna Soubry MP states that `` People who are overweight have a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers. Excess weight can also make it more difficult for people to find and keep work, and it can affect self-esteem and mental health.’’
