Increase sentencing for terror offences; Prohibition of congregation within HMP

Petition Details

Review of the following Acts of Parliament:
Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001;
Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005;
Counter-Terrorism Act 2008;
Terrorist Asset-Freezing Act 2010;
Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures Act 2011; and
Protection of Freedoms Act 2012

Additional Information

Sentencing regarding terror related offences are currently lenient and as a result failing in the deterrence of further attacks.
HMP currently system allows individuals to congregate based on religious beliefs this should not be permitted. Derogation from Human Rights is needed in situations where the life of the State is threatened.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. Sentencing is a matter for the courts, so we're not sure exactly what action you would like the Government or Parliament to take about terrorism sentences. You could start a new petition asking Parliament to increase the minimum sentence in law for terrorism-related offences.

Similarly, we're also not sure what you mean by 'review' the Acts you have listed. Parliament can create, debate and repeal laws. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like Parliament to do, such as strengthening or repealing specific laws.

We are also not sure what you mean by 'derogation from Human Rights'.
