Increase the number of specialist road traffic officers to reduce road deaths

Petition Details

10,732 people died on UK roads between 2010 and 2015. In the period Jan to March 2016 alone saw a 14% increase in reported road deaths. Without the fear of detection, non-compliance of road safety rules and laws is noticeably increasing. Enforcement is no longer supporting education or engineering

Additional Information

"The level of enforcement on our roads is woefully inadequate,
between 2010 and 2014 the UK has seen a 27% reduction in the number of specialist road traffic police on the roads (falling from 5,338 to 3,901) outside of London". Brake-the road safety charity
Without a visible police presence, road users no longer fear being caught and are increasing non-compliant and yet detection rates are falling
Between 2010-15 133,565 people were seriously injured
Motor insurers paid out £27m per day in 2015
