Petition Action

Introduce new homeless scheme. Review DCLG's pledge of £500m back in 2016

Petition Details

Community work tirelessly, self funded to help homeless. Resources are running low.
Street link and associated charities cannot cope. Shelter should be available 24 hours a day to prevent returning to street. If there is space enough in freezing weather, there should be space all of the time.

Additional Information

Pool all existing homeless groups and charities. Offer a scheme which brings empty buildings including churches, into use as day centres offering rehabilitation. The rehabilitated then volunteer at the centre - cleaning, laundry, cooking, outreach - in return for shelter until homed
Once homed, they work for the council, doing the jobs the council say they have no resources for - such as helping to refurbish further empty homes and buildings and community service in return for ongoing welfare.
