Petition Action

Keep the press free from political interference

Additional Information

We call upon the government to not allow the press to be regulated by law. Even though a small minority of journalists broke the law and carried out despicable acts the Leveson recommendation for regulation by statute should be resisted.
Journalists who break the rules should be prosecuted under the existing criminal law to the fullest extent and these laws may need to be tightened but the press should remain free from political interference and the risk of any future political interference.
