Petition Action

Leave the European Human Rights Act 1998

Additional Information

Before this act, cases were to be presided over by the European court of human rights in Strasbourg.

Domestic courts in the UK could not hear cases because, under the UK's dualist system of law, the convention remained an international treaty with no domestic effect.

In 1997 the Labour government incorporated the convention into domestic law.

Result? Known terrorists not being allowed to be deported and much other foolishness that we can read about every day.

Common Sense and natural justice has died and Lawyers have cleaned up...such as but not exclusively Cherie Blair's firm Matrix...
