Petition Action

Lower the voting age on referendums and general elections in the future to 16.

Petition Details

Britain voted to leave the EU, A decision that will affect young people more than older Britons, as statistically they will live longer and by extension live longer with the consequences of that decision, positive or negative. 16-18 year olds didn't have a say and should get so in the future

Additional Information

The voting age at the moment is 18. At 16, GCSE's are finished and people at this age are able to form their own opinions and have their own opinions at this age. If a 16 year old is able to: get married, have sex, have a job full time, join the army, pay taxes, leave home, buy a lottery ticket and many other rights, why don't we have the right to vote? Brazil, Argentina, Jersey, Isle of man and Austria allowed 16s to vote and in Scotland, voting age for Scottish elections were lowered to 16
