Make all e-Petition Debates Free Votes
Given that we the public are asking for a debate, though these petitions, often on subject that none of the three main parties want a debate on, the debate must not be subjected to any party interference.
Having seen the recent EU debate with 3 line whips imposed on our debate by the main parties, we the public need to send a strong message that these are our debates and are not to be crushed by the establishment.
This e-petition has been rejected with the following reason given:
E-petitions cannot be used to request action on issues that are outside the responsibility of the government. This includes:
- party political material
- commercial endorsements including the promotion of any product, service or publication
- issues that are dealt with by devolved bodies, eg The Scottish Parliament
- correspondence on personal issues
E-petitions cannot be used for freedom of information requests.
The following explanatory notes have been added:
Whipping is a matter for political parties and not HM Government.
