Petition Action

Make Organ Donation An Opt-Out Scheme

Additional Information

This petition is calling for the change in law to make organ donation an opt-out scheme rather than an opt-in scheme and to abolish the rule that allows families to overrule the wishes of their loved ones.

If this happens, it would decrease the number of people who die needlessly due to the lack of organs available.

-90% of people believe organ donation is correct

-Only 30% of people are signed up to the organ donor register

-1000 people die per year waiting for an organ

-7410 people are currently on the waiting list for an organ

-You are more likely to require an organ than be on the donor register

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.

Please see petition - Make Organ donating Opt out rather than Opt in.
