Mobility Scooter speed should be limited to walking pace.

Petition Details

People do not need to pass any "driving" test to use one and they are driven on pavements. I regularly see pedestrians being knocked out of the way by scooters racing around corners. If they were slowed down it would mean a greater degree of control of the scooter.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There is already a speed limit in place for mobility scooters on pavements. You can find out more about the rules here:

www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/rules-for-users-of-powered-wheelchairs-and-mobility-scooters-36-to-46

In particular, you will see from these rules that powered wheelchairs and scooters must not travel faster than 4 mph (6 km/h) on pavements or in pedestrian areas. 4mph is a brisk walking pace.

If you think that this limit should be reduced, you could start a petition asking for that.
