Petition Action

Motorists forced to accept speeding fines in return for a lighter punishment.

Petition Details

In February 2016, I was sent a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) by my local Police force who alleged that I was speeding (driving at 59 mph on the motorway which had a maximum speed limit of 50 mph at the time).

Additional Information

I know I was not speeding and have not done so since I acquired my licence nearly 8 years ago. I wanted to appeal however, the threat of an increased penalty and possible court action forced me into accepting the 'lighter' punishment.

This needs to change so innocent motorists like myself are not used as a revenue generator. I genuinely feel robbed and it is not a nice feeling.

Ordinary citizens and drivers cannot afford fancy and expensive Lawyers to make something like this 'go away.'

The law needs to change so motorists (past, present and future) who were forced into accepting the alleged offence (speeding and parking) in return for a lighter punishment have a chance for a fair and an independent hearing.
