MP's required to reach state pensionable age, before being paid their MP pension

Petition Details

Parliament has increased the state retirement age and continues to do so. MP's have also changed public sector pensions and the age from which benefits become payable. It is only fair that those who decide on such changes, are subject to them themselves.

Additional Information

This petition gives MP's the opportunity to join the rest of the Great British Public and bring their pension rules into line with the state retirement age they tell us is needed to ensure pensions remain affordable.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government and Parliament don’t have the power to take action on MPs’ pensions. That power was given by Parliament to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA), who are responsible for the pension scheme's rules and decide on MPs’ eligibility to claim.
