Petition Action

Only parliament through a vote of MPs and not the PM can invoke article 50

Petition Details

Invocation of article 50 is the beginning of withdrawal from the EU which gives 2 years for a raft of negotiations prior to eventual exit. Given the complex nature of withdrawal, and the pattern of voting in the EU referendum which shows a divided country, parliament should vote prior to article 50

Additional Information

Invocation of article 50 could trigger a break-up of the United Kingdom, with the possibility of a second independence referendum in Scotland which has a high possibility of resulting in an independent Scotland and thus a break-up of the United Kingdom.
