Petition Action

Reclassify all psychoactive drugs (legal highs) as illegal under the Misuse of Drugs Act

Additional Information

The North West Evening Mail newspaper, backed by MP John Woodcock and police superintendent, Mark Pannone, is calling for:
1 - An outright ban on all psychoactive substances, sometimes known as legal highs, being sold for human consumption to be achieved through their reclassification as illegal under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
2 - The introduction of government legislation for importers of chemicals which means they must produce, when asked, documentary evidence stating the chemical’s country of origin, its provenance, the specific use for which it is intended in the UK and its scheduled destination.
3 - As an interim and immediate measure, the introduction of a government-led education programme for secondary schools and colleges on the dangers of “legal highs”.
