Petition Action

Refund state taxes paid by UK residents who have no say at statal elections

Petition Details

No taxation without representation. There are millions of people living, working, and paying taxes in the UK, but with no right to participate to politics at state level. Thus, they should not pay taxes at state level. Council taxes and National Insurance should still be paid.

Additional Information

The United Kingdom is changing at fast speed because of the result of the EU referendum, and a non negligible portion of people contributing to the British economy have not been involved in this decision. Taking into account the opinion of 3M EU citizens residing in UK, and most under-age British people who work, the result would be overturned. In the spirit of John Hampden, whose statue is in Westminster, since these people have no voice over state politics, they should not pay state taxes.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

If you would like all UK taxpayers who are not able to vote in a general election to be exempt from income tax, you could start a new petition calling for that.
