Shuttle site Puffin/Toucan/Pegasus crossings
The principle of installing a pedestrian/cyclist/equestrian aspect on the nearside (as opposed opposite) is to force pedestrians to look towards the oncoming traffic when waiting for the green light. At shuttle sites (where one single file of traffic serves both directions alternating) this principle is difficult to achieve, even with multiple aspects.
The respective traffic signs regulations should therefore make a '<- LOOK BOTH WAYS ->' road marking for each pedestrian wait area mandatory at such a site.
