That BREXIT must include leaving the European Court of Human Rights

Petition Details

An intrinsic part of the Brexit debate was the sovereignty of Great Britain, the ability to decide on our own matters. The ECHR must no longer be part of our legal process deciding who we may deport, this is a job for our sovereign legal system up to the House of Lords.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The European Court of Human Rights has nothing to do with the European Union. It is the court of a separate international organisation called the Council of Europe, of which the UK was a founding member in 1951. You can find out more about it here: www.coe.int/en/web/about-us/who-we-are

If you want the Government to exit the Council of Europe, you could start a new petition about that.
