Petition Action

The Government should bring pressure to bear on the BBC to sack Jeremy Clarkson

Additional Information

When discussing public sector workers who had gone on strike Jeremy Clarkson stated that ""I'd have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families", he also said that they have "gilt-edged pensions whilst the rest of us have to work for a living". These comments could be seen to incite violence against members of the public and should not be made by someone in the employ of an organisation that is funded with public money.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This is a matter for the BBC.

It is a long-standing principle that the Government does not interfere in programme matters. It is important to maintain the principle of freedom of expression which political interference could undermine.
