Petition Action

The legal right Right to Roam for cats is out of date and needs to be reviewed

Petition Details

There are 7.6 million cats in the United Kingdom with the legal Right to Roam across the 83% of homes who do not have one

In addition to the stench of cat urine and droppings, they destroy garden plants and drive away wildlife

It is time the rights of non-cat owners are protected

Additional Information

These protections are already afforded by the Human Rights Act article 8 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990 but not enforced

Millions of pounds a year are now spent on questionable cat deterrent products which is a gross imposition on non-cat owning households

Exempt from the Animals Act 1971 cat owners are expected to excersise a Common Duty of Care, but history shows they are incapable of doing so

It is time for the 83% of non-cat owning households to have their rights protected

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could ask Parliament to change the law to place specific restrictions or responsibilities on owners of cats.
