Petition Action

To ban by law any offender of child abuse and other offences, working with children.

Additional Information

To implement a law to ban any offender cautioned or convicted, or placed on the sex offenders register, of offences against children including possession of, or downloading of explicit child photos and or film of a sexual or degrading nature, from working directly or indirectly with children up to 18 years old in Education and other areas of responsibility of care or positions of trust.
In 2006 there were 88 people with cautions or convictions of sex offences that have not been banned from the classroom. In 2009 there were at least 50 sex offenders posing a risk to children were cleared to work in schools. The Government refused to declare how many were child sex offenders. On the 6th of June 2013 teacher Geoffrey Bettley found to have 200 child abuse images on his computer. He accepted a police caution but a panel ruled he should be allowed to return to work in the classroom. The above proposal would stop children being placed at risk.
