To raise the minimum wage for apprentices from £3.40 to £4.00 per hour
The minimum wage for an apprentice is currently £3.40 per hour no matter your age. In a fair society this should be a minimum of £4.00 per hour. This will bring the minimum wage in line with anyone under the age of 18 currently employed within the UK.
Apprenticeships offer an alternative to traditional academic education. It is a way for people to learn and gain a qualification while being employed & gaining experience at the same time. Employers within the UK are incentivised by the government for taking on an apprentice. An apprentice has all the employment rights of a standard employee & in most cases the same work load however, have studies & coursework on top which is required to progress their qualification.
