UK Government make it compulsory for manufacturers of salt in UK to add iodine.

Petition Details

Iodine deficiency is linked to miscarriage,stillbirth,mental impairment,increase of perinatal and infant mortality. It is the most common worldwide cause of thyroid disorders. Low iodine can cause hypothyroidism,goitre and can affect fertility,pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorders in new-borns

Dr Mark Vanderpump, told the Society for Endocrinology 'Data suggests the UK is iodine deficient’ A study involving 700 teenage girls at nine UK centres found more than two thirds had an iodine deficiency and nearly a fifth showed very low iodine levels.
