Use 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' for the English national anthem

Petition Details

Discussions have begun to give England its own national anthem to replace God Save the Queen, which will be kept for whole of the UK. Eric Idle's 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' truly embraces the English spirit of self depreciation and quiet positivity and would make a perfect replacement.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This isn’t something that the UK Government or Parliament would be able to do. There is at present no anthem for England. The use of the present National Anthem is a matter of tradition rather than having any legal or constitutional status.
