Petition Action

Use the circa £3.9bn TV licence monies for NHS,police & forces rather than BBC

Petition Details

The TV licence fee funded the BBC circa £3.9billion in 2018, and I believe this would be better spent on our NHS, police and armed forces than on what is fundamentally a media outlet. Split 3 ways it would train and fund salary of tens of thousands of nurses, police officers and forces personnel

Additional Information

In the current age of coipies media options, the BBCs relevance is questionable. With austerity measures in place,& strain on NHS, police, and services personnel the circa £3.9bn of licence monies would surely be better spent on our frontline social responsibilities than on a broadcaster.Split 3ways this funding could provide £1.3bn each and train and pay for 10,000s of new nurses and officers, which is of due consideration due to potential drop in overseas worker numbers resulting from Brexit

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

Money raised from the TV licence fee goes to the BBC, not the Government. It is not clear how you propose that the Government raise the additional money for the NHS, the police and the armed forces once the licence fee is abolished.

You could start a new petition to ask the UK Government increase taxes to fund the NHS, the police and the armed forces , if that’s what you’d like to happen.
