Petition Action

voting age reduced to 16+

Additional Information

This is a petition to lower the legal voting age to 16 and overs.

Currently 16 year olds can:

Work and pay tax
Join the armed forces
Consent to sexual relationships
Join a union
Claim tax credits and other benifits

But currently a 16 year old cannot vote on an instition that they can help fund.

The only argument against this is ignorance but in all honesty little changes for many "adults" when they come of age.

This could change the way many 16 and 17 year olds view politics too with the possibility of greater interest from a younger age.

Scotland want to allow 16+17 year olds to vote in the independence referendum. The rest of the UK should follow suit for all votes
