Petition Action

We believe that the number of deaths and injuries on UK roads is not acceptable.

Additional Information

We believe that the number of deaths and injuries on UK roads is not acceptable.

The number of people killed in road accidents reported to the police was 2,222 in 2009 and 1,857 in 2010.

A total of 24,517 people were reported killed or seriously injured in 2010.

There were 208,655 casualties (slight injuries, serious injuries and fatalities) in road accidents reported to the police in Great Britain in 2010.

The total reported child casualties (ages 0-15) was 19,569 in 2010.

The number of children killed or seriously injured in 2010 was 2,502.

We request that the government look into safety measures to improve road safety, including (but not limited to) reducing the speed limits where appropriate, more education for drivers about accident prevention, frequent driver testing, improved car technology and harsher penalties for dangerous driving and other driving offences.
