Petition Action

We oppose the racist practise of ‘blacking up’ ones face in imitation of black people.

Additional Information

All across the UK there are a number of Morris troupes, and other similar groups, who regularly blacken their faces with paint in an attempt to imitate Black people.

This act is offensive and we believe that it contravenes the Public Order Act 1986.

This act prohibits the use of threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or displaying any written material which is threatening, abusive or insulting with the intention of stirring up racial hatred or where racial hatred is likely to be stirred up.

We would like the Government to look at this hurtful and offensive practice and use the existing Act to remove it from our society.
