Petition Action

Criminalisation for Failure to Exercise Parental Responsibility

Additional Information

Parents should be legally responsible for the actions of their children and liable for prosecution if they have not exercised sufficient parental responsibility in order to prevent a child from engaging in criminal activities.

If this government is serious in tackling the issues surrounding the erosion of family life and, in particular, feckless and neglectful parenting then it must make the parents accountable for the whereabouts and activities of their children.

Suitable punishment for this should include a range of financial penalties supplemented by community service and custodial sentences for more serious breaches.
