End institutional care for children: orphanages and children's homes

Petition Details

Over 55% of those in the care system end up in the prison system, are vulnerable for human trafficking, prostitution, drugs, alcohol abuse and teenage pregnancy, plus, 40% of care leavers are not in education, employment or training at age 19 compared to 11% of the general population.

Additional Information

75% of children in care live in Foster Homes costing the Country £1.5 Billion, however, 25% of children in care who live in Children's Homes costs the Country £1 Billion (2012-2013) on average £133,000 - £148,000 per child per year, yet it will cost a parent approximately £25,000 - £30,000 per year to send their child to a top boarding school to receive the best education money can buy, and those that attend boarding school don’t end up in prison. This is one of many viable solutions to consider
