NHS Allocation of Funds for PFO Closure in Selected Ischaemic Stroke Patients

Petition Details

Young and unsuspecting people suffer from stroke due to a hole in their heart called a PFO. There is a straight forward procedure scientifically proven to be statistically significant in reducing secondary stroke in these patients. The NHS does not currently allocate funding for this procedure.

Professional boxer Dan Sarkozi is an example of an unsuspecting victim of cryptogenic stroke. Dan suffered a cryptogenic stroke due to a hole in his heart which was originally believed to be a PFO. He faced the proposition of losing his career and spending his life on blood thinning medication due to lack of funding for this procedure.
