Petition Action

Broadband suppliers to give option of cancelling contract of service online

Petition Details

Consumer have to call a broadband suppliers and wait on hold for potentially an hour before being able to cancel. But signing up to broadband is mostly done online, easily and quickly. After 12 months/18 month contract, the cost of broadband keeps increasing every month unless cancelled

Additional Information

Terminating a contract should be as easy as entering into the contract. Big companies have unequal power compared to consumer and consumer has to get angry enough about being overcharged to invest the hour it takes to call to cancel

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. This is a contractual matter between individual companies and their customers.

You could start a petition calling on the Government to ban the automatic renewal of TV, broadband and phone contracts, if that is something you'd like to happen.
