Petition Action

Prevent the BBC using our money on pointless (literally) Eurovision Song Contest

Petition Details

Reduce the funding to the BBC (via whatever means) by the cost of entry to persuade the BBC to stop wasting our money

Additional Information

The contest is no longer about the songs its a political forum where countries use their votes to display support for or curry favour from neighbouring counties. We are clearly unpopular so why pay a 5th of the costs for this forum

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about the UK's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest are a matter for the BBC, not the Government or House of Commons.

The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

This means the Government is not responsible for decisions relating to the Eurovision Song Contest.
