Petition Action

Change mobile phone sales for under 16's.

Petition Details

Any mobile phone that is sold for use by a child under 16 must be accompanied by a government warning. This should include online information to lead parents to sites on online safety, regulations and help with associated issues.

Additional Information

The online environment has insufficient independent regulation to prevent significant harm (including loss of life) to our youngsters.
The companies providing social media are using their economic influence to avoid regulation and only seek to maximise their profits in this vulnerable population group.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We're not sure whether you want warnings for children or parents and what you'd like to be covered by "sold for use by a child under 16".

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
